Al-Khair Islamic School is Rochester, Minnesota’s only full-time Islamic school combining strong academics and Islamic education. We serve students from Kindergarten through 10th grade in a school environment where Qur’an, deen, academics, character, physical development, and responsibility grow together.
Our mission
Educating the whole Muslim child.
Al-Khair exists to help Muslim children develop strong faith, strong character, strong bodies, and strong academic foundations in an environment where Islam guides the purpose of education rather than sitting on the side of it.
We want students to know the Qur’an, understand their deen, communicate clearly, think independently, take responsibility, care for their health, and pursue beneficial knowledge with excellence.
A complete school model
Islamic education is not an after-school add-on.
At Al-Khair, students do not spend the school day receiving one worldview and then add Qur’an afterward. The entire learning environment is built around the Muslim student.

Strong Hearts
Qur’an, Islamic Studies, worship, manners, responsibility, and character help students develop hearts attached to Allah and a clear Muslim identity.

Strong Minds
Students build literacy, mathematical thinking, scientific understanding, writing ability, Arabic, problem solving, and the confidence to continue learning independently.
Integrated learning
Subjects reinforce one another.
We intentionally connect learning across the school day. This allows students to practice important skills more often and to understand that Islamic knowledge and academic knowledge are not separate worlds.
Tafseer → Writing
Through “Tafseer Sentences,” students write daily from the tafseer of the Qur’an portion they are memorizing, reinforcing English writing, vocabulary, comprehension, and Qur’anic understanding at the same time.
Islam → Science
Science combines software and in-person instruction while helping students connect the study of creation with an Islamic worldview.
Reading → Islamic Studies & Social Studies
Reading comprehension and vocabulary are practiced beyond English class so students strengthen literacy throughout the day.
Arabic → Daily Practice
Students develop both English and Arabic writing regularly rather than treating Arabic as an occasional enrichment subject.
Individualized learning
Grade level is a starting point—not a ceiling.
Children do not develop at exactly the same pace in every subject. Al-Khair uses individualized learning so students can strengthen weak areas while continuing to move ahead in areas where they are ready for more.
